LORE
A nomadic, research-based spatial practice
LORE explores the relationships between people, places and living ecologies, with a particular focus on communities and landscapes rendered vulnerable, marginalised or threatened.
We work with local communities, artists, researchers and more-than-human landscapes to uncover, collect and reimagine the stories, memories, knowledge and myths held within a place. Through counter-mapping, lore-making, workshops, performance and collective making, we bring these living stories into physical and public forms — from maps and archives to masks, costumes, rituals and site-based works.
Loregraphy
A methodology for situated ecological storytelling
Loregraphy collects situated ecological stories through fieldwork and exchanges with local communities, bringing overlooked relationships and little-known happenings between people, land and landscape into view.
Through multimedia, performance and embodied methods, it reimagines old stories and cultural memories as alternative pathways towards more-than-human futures.
Lore-log
Approaches of collective imagination and performance, cultural friendship and living archives
LORE explores how cultural memory and ecological knowledge can remain alive through collective imagination, making and exchange. Each collaboration is an opportunity to build a cultural friendship with a place and its communities: to listen, learn, create and give something back.
We are particularly interested in ecologies and communities whose stories are often overlooked, working towards a growing, living archive of local lore and ecological relationships.
Our position
Against extractivism, towards alternative ways of living
Our practice explores forms of resistance to extractivism, nationalism, capitalism and rationalism, seeking alternative ways of knowing, relating to and living with the world.
